Change the app or account that opens when you select Send on a contact, so emails go out from the address you want.

When you select **Send** on a contact's email, FundHero opens a `mailto:` link, and your computer or browser decides which email app handles it. To change which app or account opens, change the default email app on your device or in your browser.

## How Send works

FundHero doesn't send email for you. **Send** logs the email on the contact's timeline, then opens a `mailto:` link with the subject and message filled in. Whatever is set as your default email handler opens, and you send from there. This keeps emails coming from your own address. See [Send an email to a contact](https://www.fundhero.com/help/send-an-email/).

This setting is on your device. It is separate from your team email, which controls the address that receives donor notifications and sends automated receipts. See [Change your team email](https://www.fundhero.com/help/change-your-team-email/).

## Gmail in Chrome

Chrome can open Gmail for `mailto:` links. Sign in to Gmail in Chrome, then open Chrome's **Settings** > **Privacy and security** > **Site settings** and check that sites may ask to handle protocols (the legacy name is "handlers"). When Chrome shows the handler icon in the address bar, select it and choose **Allow**. Then make sure Chrome is your device's default email app, using the steps for your system below.

## macOS

Open the Mail app, go to its settings and choose the account you want to use. If you prefer a different app, set it as the default email reader in Mail's settings.

## Windows

Open **Settings** > **Apps** > **Default apps**, find **Email**, and choose the app you want, such as Outlook. If a browser is registered as the handler for `mailto:` links, remove it in the browser's site settings first, as above, or it will open instead.

## Outlook and other desktop apps

Set the app as the default email app in your operating system (see the macOS and Windows sections). Some apps also have their own "make this my default mail app" option in their settings.

## Mobile

On a phone or tablet, `mailto:` links open your device's default mail app. Change it in your device settings under the default apps or mail options.

## Still opening the wrong app?

Send yourself a test email from a test contact to check which app opens. If you need more help, contact mail@fundhero.io.
