# Refund a donation

How to ask for a refund on an online donation, and what happens to fees.

To refund an online donation, email [mail@fundhero.io](mailto:mail@fundhero.io). FundHero doesn't have a refund button in the dashboard. The original processing fee (4.9% + $0.30) is not refunded.

## Request a refund

1. Open the donation in FundHero, or the **Donation Report** or **Payout Report**, and note the donor's name, the date and the amount. The **Payout Report** also shows the **Charge Id**, which helps us find the payment.
2. Email [mail@fundhero.io](mailto:mail@fundhero.io) with those details and say you want the donation refunded.

## What to expect

- **Fees:** The 4.9% + $0.30 processing fee on the original donation isn't returned. See [Fees explained](https://www.fundhero.com/help/fees-explained/).
- **Reports:** After the refund, the **Payout Report** shows **Refunded** as true for that donation, with the amount in **Amount Refunded**. Those columns are part of the report, and you can add them to a custom report.

## Donors asking for a refund

If a donor asks you for a refund, ask them for the date and amount of the gift and follow the steps above. Monthly donors can stop future payments themselves. See [Cancel a monthly donation](https://www.fundhero.com/help/cancel-a-monthly-donation/).
