Connect Stripe to accept donations

Link a bank account through Stripe so your donation page can take payments.

Updated

Your donation page can’t take payments until you connect a Stripe Express account, which is how FundHero pays donations out to your bank account. Start from the banner at the top of the dashboard and follow Stripe’s prompts, which FundHero’s setup screen says takes less than 5 minutes.

Before you start

Have these ready:

  • Debit card or bank account details for the account that should receive donations
  • An EIN (if you are signing up as a business or campaign) or an SSN (if you are signing up as an individual). See Organization structure, EINs and campaign bank accounts for which to choose
  • A photo for your donation page

Stripe, FundHero’s payment processor, has to verify your identity under U.S. law before it can pay you.

Connect your account

  1. While Stripe isn’t connected, the dashboard shows the banner "You aren’t able to accept donations." Select Setup your donation page now. You can also open Donation Pages, which sends you to the same setup.
  2. On "Set up your donation page and start taking donations online.", select Start Set Up.
  3. Enter a page title under "Add your page title". Keep it short so donors recognize your cause.
  4. Add an image under "Add a page Image". You can reposition and zoom it.
  5. Select Next. FundHero sends you to Stripe to finish onboarding.
  6. Enter your details on Stripe. When you finish, Stripe returns you to FundHero, which publishes your donation page and opens the page editor with the message "Your page is published!"

If Start Set Up is replaced by a disabled Awaiting Verification button, FundHero is still verifying your team account. Check back shortly or email mail@fundhero.io to ask for expedited verification.

If you leave Stripe’s form before finishing

FundHero links your team to the Stripe account as soon as the account is created, so the "You aren’t able to accept donations." banner can disappear before Stripe has everything it needs. To pick up where you left off, go to Settings > Stripe and select Open Stripe. If onboarding isn’t complete, Stripe shows the remaining steps instead of your Express dashboard.

Check or manage the connection later

Go to Settings > Stripe. If a Stripe account is connected, you’ll see "Stripe Connection" with two buttons:

If Stripe isn’t connected, this tab says "You don’t currently have a stripe connection to receive donations." and links to create a donation page. If you aren’t a team admin, the tab tells you to contact your team admin and doesn’t show these buttons.
