Merge duplicate contacts

Combine two contact records into one and choose which details to keep.

Updated

Select exactly two contacts, then choose More Actions > Merge Contacts. FundHero combines them into one record and moves over their donations, pledges and activity history.

Merge two contacts

  1. Open Contacts.
  2. Tick the checkboxes next to the two duplicate records. Use search to find them, or open the Potential Duplicates list described in Built-in smart lists.
  3. In the bar that appears, open More Actions. Merge Contacts only appears when exactly two contacts are selected. With any other number you will only see Delete Contacts.
  4. Select Merge Contacts.

Resolve conflicts

If both contacts have a value for the same field and the values differ, FundHero shows a table with one column per contact and a message that there are conflicting fields. Select the value you want to keep in each row. By default the first contact’s value is selected.

The table compares these fields: First Name, Last Name, Organization, Title, Notes, Type, Mobile Number, Home Number, Work Number, Email Address, Address, Address 2, City, State and Zip Code.

If a field is empty on one contact, the value from the other is kept automatically. If the two records have no conflicts, you only see a message asking you to confirm the merge of the two named contacts.

Select Confirm to finish, or Cancel to leave both contacts as they were. You will see "Contacts merged successfully".

What gets merged

All other information, including contact history, pledges and donations, merges automatically. If either contact was flagged, the merged contact is flagged.

The prompt does not describe an undo, so check the two names before you confirm.
